Counselling help for stress, bereavement, depression & health problems | Counselling sessions to treat alcohol or substance abuse, domestic abuse or problems with anger
Counselling offers you a place to explore difficulties you are having in your personal life with someone who is trained neither to judge nor advise you but to explore and unlock your feelings, which may have been hidden for years.
Past and present relationships will be talked about helping you to understand more about yourself. It may well be upsetting but it will help you to understand more about yourself.
Who is it for?
Counsellors have helped people to make important positive changes in their lives, but equally have helped people to live more creatively with situations that cannot easily be changed. Some clients find that the ability to discuss their difficulties openly with someone they can trust is sufficient reason on its own to enter counselling, just explaining things to someone impartial can often clarify the situation.
Counselling can help by addressing and resolving specific problems for example; making decisions, coping with crisis, improving relationships with others, personal development issues,
People enter into counselling for a wide variety of reasons including:
loss of confidence or motivation
stress
bereavement
depression
health problems
alcohol or substance abuse
domestic abuse
problems with anger

Ben Stephenson
Psychotherapist BA, Dip. Psych, MBACP
Ben is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with years of experience in both clinical and private practice. He is also a full member of the BACP. ‘People often ask me, what is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy? I tell them that counselling offers a safe space to talk, without judgement, addressing problems in everyday life and dealing with them in solution-based ways. Psychotherapy is a longer process which deals with more deep-seated issues, possibly related to childhood or adolescent trauma, where the cycle of growth was interrupted and now needs healing so that the person can move forward in their present day life.’ Ben uses a multi-model approach with his clients integrating person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy to achieve best results. He specialises in grief, sexuality (including abuse, relationships and identity), and depression. In some instances, such as anxiety, Ben may recommend that the client consider hypnotherapy, in correlation with psychotherapy, as he is also a qualified hypnotherapist.
