Osteopathy is a science that dates back to the 19th century. It recognises
the importance of the link between the structure of the body, and the way in which it functions. By assessing the body in postural and mechanical movements, diagnosis and treatment can be established. This aids the body through a natural drug free healing process.
The osteopath uses manipulation, mobilisation, soft tissue and stretching techniques to help heal the body.
Ostopathy is well known to provide relief for back and neck pain, but it can also help with other conditions;
Sports injuries
Sciatica
Joint pain
Muscle tension
Frozen shoulder
Arthritic pain
Pregnancy and post labour back care
First consultation with the osteopath they will take a full history of the complaint, medical information and lifestyle. The patient is then asked to undress to their underwear so that observation of posture and movements can be obtained. This will also include gentle touch to assess any changes in the musculo-skeletal or visceral systems. Specific tests and medical assessments may also be performed; this allows full diagnosis and a treatment plan which the osteopath will then implement using various gentle techniques.
