Soft tissue injuries i.e. muscles, tendons and ligaments can be divided into two groups, acute injuries and over-use injuries. Either type, if mismanaged may become chronic. There are five common causes of soft tissue injuries: impact, twisting, friction, shearing or stretching forces.
Many soft tissue conditions are not related to sport but from the negative stress patterns attributed to work and everyday experiences. Stress related conditions are often found in the musculature and have a similarity to conditions originating from sport or rigorous activity. This means that some physical malfunctions attributed to stress can be treated identically and with equal success.
